Orchard Mountain offers picturesque vista views of mountains and lakes surround by beautiful mountain homes and some of the original orchard farm structures.
Also in nearby Mount Airy (also known as Mayberry) are local attractions such as the Andy Griffith Theater and museum, Barney's restaurant, Andy Griffith's home place just off Rockford Street, and other similar attractions. Also, the Mayberry Days and Autumn Leaves festivals draw thousands to the streets of Mayberry for food, fun, vendors, and loads of fun.
Only five minutes from the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway and 20 minutes from the New River, Orchard Mountain is centrally located to many highland recreational and entertainment facilities. If you like Bluegrass music, you are in the right spot. Many venues available almost every night of the week, from planned events to drop-ins at someone's home. Hiking trails are in abundance and if you have never rafted on the New River, get ready for fun! Or just sit by a lake and enjoy the view, or catch a fish!!
Orchard Mountain abounds with wildlife including deer, turkey, geese, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, an occasional fox, and coyotes. You will also see lots of our feathered friends including Blue Jays, Finches, Red Birds, Woodpeckers, and a Pileated Woodpecker to name just a few. Spring brings new life, both for the natural mountain greenery as well as the wildlife as shown below. The neighborhood also put up over 30 bluebird houses.
